Sazerac Rye 18 Year Review

The guys over at Breaking Bourbon have gathered all the release info for the 2019 BTAC. Thanks to those gents for keeping the rest of us organized. For now, we’ll see what folks have been saying about the Sazerac Rye 18 in 2019 and earlier.

The Expert Roundup

“The 2019 Sazerac 18 Year is the best it has been in years, but does it reach the level of the steel tanked batch? If you like that old whiskey funk, this one’s for you.”@breakingbourbon,

“Nice sipper for a Saturday evening. A 2014 Sazerac Rye 18 hits the spot!”@bourbon_buddies

“Back on the 2015 Sazerac 18yo this afternoon for a quick pour. It’s got this amazingly unique nose that I can’t resist… Why can’t the newer releases taste this good?”@whiskey_of_the_people

“One of my favorite rye mixers, a 50/50 blend of TH Handy and Sazerac 18. I don’t mind them by themselves (especially the THH), but when you blend the two, they each bring what the other is missing. So tasty. If you’re able, you should definitely give this a shot.”@abushong

“Today’s rye is the 2018 Sazerac 18yr from Buffalo Trace, bottled at 45% and wishing it were more like 50.5%.”@whiskeycurator

“Got to try this old Saz 18 this past weekend. What a treat! Definitely a different taste profile from the newer Sazerac Ryes. Spring 1983… talk about some old juice!”atl_brown_water_society

“Sazerac 18 had tons of oak on the nose, more muted spice, vanilla, and a nice mix of fruits. The spice hits you more on the palate, balanced off by a brown sugar-like sweetness, and finishing with a peppery dry finish. This was ridiculously fun to try and a worthwhile splurge for a special occasion at a whiskey bar.” @beeraficionado

“Nightcap: Sazerac 18 Year Old Straight Rye. Pencil shavings, leather, cinnamon, tobacco, oranges, banana, gentle mint, and a spicy drying oak finish.”@scott_to
