If you’re looking for the best sipping whiskey to kick back and relax with, you have arrived. We’re suggesting five of our favorites today (not that there aren’t plenty more out there). Perhaps you’ve given these a try already. If so, have another go. If not, sip, sip hooray! It’s time.
As you’re reading along, be thinking about your favorite sipping whiskey(s). We ask that you please share it (or all of them) in the comments section below. Our Prestige fam is all about exploration and growth. We’d enjoy hearing about what you’re enjoying these days. Share the wealth, y’all.
Best Sipping Whiskey: Beginners’ Pick
1) Buffalo Trace Bourbon

You know we’re always looking out for you, newbies. And here’s what we think you need in your life. You’ll experience whiskey; but in all its sweet glory. Expect brown sugar, toffee, molasses, and vanilla. Are you drooling yet? You’ll get anise and heat as well. But overall, this is super-smooth. It’s a glass of 90-proof amber whiskey you won’t want to put down.
Best Sipping Whiskey: Rye Pick
2) Michter’s US 1 Barrel Strength Rye

We love Michter’s for its warm-and-dry effect. Seriously, it’s like true love in a glass. Wait, no: it’s better. You’ll meet with anywhere from 107 to 112 proof, and you’ll make friends with rye if you go this route. When we say warmth, we mean it–cinnamon, caramel, and butterscotch. Get out of town with this liquid wonder. (Michter’s definitely had to make the best sipping whiskey list for us. It’s worth every damn penny in our book.)
Best Sipping Whiskey: Bourbon Picks
We can’t help our Kentucky livin’ and lovin’ selves. The bourbon section has two picks. We don’t apologize for it.
3) Elijah Craig Small Batch Barrel Proof

It’s been Whiskey of the Year for a reason. In fact, we dig it every year. It comes straight from the barrel and goes straight to our palates, then to our hearts. The proof varies by release. You’ll get a bourbon that’s complex; a bourbon you can appreciate with its herbal, minty, and rye notes. We say it’s got balance. It’s not sweet and easy, but it’s not too chokey-oaky either. It’s Elijah. And that means something.
4) Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style

This guy is chocolatey, cherry, syrupy goodness. You’ll get a bourbon that’s killing you softly from every angle. It’s caramel, it’s nuts, it’s spice, and it’s even earthy. It’s somehow a fruit platter fit for a king and queen and a decadent campfire s’more. This will be one you keep calling. Go ahead and put it in your little black book.

Best Sipping Whiskey: Irish Pick
5) Redbreast 12 Year Old

Creamy and toasty with plenty of spice, this bottle stays with you. Sip the evening away, and when you’re finished, you’re really not finished at all. Neat, on the rocks, in a cocktail–we support Redbreast 12 in any way, any time. It’s also a holiday favorite, so don’t be surprised if you see it in front and center around Christmas. It’s a sipping whiskey to call “home sweet home.”
